One person was seriously injured Wednesday morning when a crane that was doing sign work along Interstate 70 collided with a tractor-trailer. A passenger of the tractor-trailer was entrapped while the driver escaped with only minor injuries. Company 16 established I-70 command and assigned Assistant Chief 75 to the Operations division. An Off duty MSP flight paramedic was on scene and assisted with patient stabilization while firefighters worked to free the victim from the wreckage. The patient was listed as a Priority 1 Cat B Trauma due to bilateral amputation of the lower extremities. Because of the complexity of the wreckage, extrication took 30 minutes. The patient was packaged and loaded into Paramedic 753 and transported to Washington County Trauma Center. Fire companies from Funkstown, Mount Aetna and Myersville in Frederick County were on the scene along with ambulances from Community Rescue Service and Boonsboro Ambulance Squad.
